As the owner and president of Wm. Shaw & Associates and a native Houstonian since 1961, Bill Shaw carries an abundance of knowledge in engineering and structural design. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston, with a fifth year of study devoted to engineering design. He now continues his education through attending seminars, business and construction courses, and local and national shows and exhibits.
After receiving a Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Houston, Bill was accepted into the U.S. Naval Service as a Naval Aviator. Years later, following rigorous mental and physical testing, he was accepted into flight school and upon completion was awarded his “Wings of Gold” and stationed on the East Coast. After he finished the naval service, he became an R.O.T.C. instructor and assistant professor, teaching engineering systems and navigation courses at Rice University. After retiring from active duty, Bill continued to serve as a reserve officer and spent his last year in the service flying the A-6 Intruder in Virginia. Bill Shaw left the Navy ranked as a Lieutenant Commander. In 1984, after leaving active duty, Bill turned to private business and founded Southern Residential Services and began working as a general contractor.
Bill Shaw is a member of the Better Business Bureau, National Association of the Remodeling Industry, and The Greater Houston Builders Association's Remodelors Council. As a current Board Member of the Remodelors Council, he has been recognized for his contribution and organization of the GHBA Remodelors Council Sheltering Arms charity project.
He has completed course requirements and has been designated as a Certified Graduate Remodeler, Graduate Master Builder and Certified Aging-in-Place Design Specialist.
